A Moment Of Silence
Student work · Tapestry, 2020
Silence is not the absence of life. It is a state in which life reveals its fullness without demanding anything in return.
At the heart of this work lies the simple act of watching birds in flight. Their movement across the open sky becomes an invitation to experience existence without purpose, expectation, or the need for intervention.
Nothing extraordinary happens. Birds fly, time passes, and the world simply exists.
And yet, nothing is missing.
I wanted to explore the richness of apparent emptiness — a state in which stillness is not opposed to movement, and silence is not opposed to life. The flight of birds fills the seemingly empty space, not with events or meanings that demand interpretation, but with the quiet abundance of being.
There is a subtle sense of self-contentment in this experience: the almost indulgent pleasure of simply existing, of being present without having to accomplish or justify anything.
The viewer is invited not merely to observe the image, but to enter this state of quiet contemplation, where the distinction between watching and experiencing begins to dissolve.
The slow, repetitive process of weaving echoes this relationship with time. Each thread becomes part of an image that emerges gradually, without haste, much like the unhurried act of following birds across the sky.
Created during my studies, Silence is a reflection on the fullness of emptiness, the pleasure of contemplation, and the simple sufficiency of existence.
Silence is not a void waiting to be filled.
It is already full.
